Premiere of Planet 589: The Last Glint Held at Our Faculty
The premiere event of the digital game “Planet 589: The Last Glint / Gezegen 589: Son Parıltı,” one of the concrete outcomes of game design studies that stand out as a creative and contemporary field of production related to our Faculty, was held on June 2, 2026, at the Ahmet Yesevi Conference Hall.
Developed by the Game Design and Development Society of Çankırı Karatekin University, the game emerged within the scope of the “Game Development Workshops for Youth Project,” supported under the 6th Term of ÜNİDES, a program carried out by the General Directorate of Youth Services of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Under the creative idea and leadership of Research Assistant Dr. Oğuz Balas, Academic Advisor of the Game Design and Development Student Society, the project turned into a playable digital product through our students’ interdisciplinary work in game design, software development, visual design, animation, sound design, and story development.
During the event, the project process and the development stages of the game were shared with the participants. Afterwards, the game was presented to the audience on the stage screen. The first gameplay experience of “Planet 589: The Last Glint” was carried out by Prof. Dr. Ersoy Yılmaz, Dean of our Faculty.
Designed as an atmospheric adventure game set on a distant planet where light is gradually fading and the last glint is being pursued, “Planet 589: The Last Glint” demonstrated that our students can create a qualified and playable game through strong teamwork in a short period of time.
This project constitutes a valuable example for our Faculty by showing how traditional graphic design education can expand into contemporary fields of digital production. It also enabled our students to gain collaborative production experience in areas such as coding, visual storytelling, animation, sound, narrative, and interaction design.
The premiere event, attended by academic staff, students, and invited guests, concluded following the certificate presentation ceremony. Our Faculty regards this project, shaped by the voluntary efforts of our students, connected with contemporary design tendencies, supportive of practice-based learning, and making interdisciplinary teamwork visible, as highly valuable. We congratulate all our students who contributed to the development of the game, all stakeholders who supported the process, and especially Research Assistant Dr. Oğuz Balas, who led the idea and execution process of the project.
