The open call process of the first edition of the Cappadocia Biennial received 1,038 applications from 48 countries, all of which were carefully evaluated by the jury. As a result of the selection process, 109 artists from 14 countries — including the United States, Germany, Argentina, China, Palestine, France, South Korea, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Iran, Italy, Japan, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, and Türkiye — were selected to participate in the biennial with a total of 101 artworks.
Assoc. Prof. Dilek Öcalan, faculty member of the Department of Sculpture at Çankırı Karatekin University Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture, is also taking part in this prestigious international biennial with her wooden artwork titled “Invisible Body.” Her work, which explores the relationship between natural material, body, visibility, and existence, establishes a strong connection with the conceptual framework of the biennial.
Held between May 7 and September 3, 2026, the Cappadocia Biennial brings the transformative power of art to the center of life with its first-year theme, “Birth.” Set within the natural, cultural, and historical fabric of Cappadocia, the biennial emphasizes that art is not only a field of aesthetic expression, but also a ground for thinking about and responding to social, ecological, and existential issues.
We value the visibility of our faculty members in national and international art platforms and congratulate Assoc. Prof. Dilek Öcalan for taking part in this significant selection.
